Qatar’s Communications Regulatory Authority Participates as Observer in ITU Council 2025 Meetings

Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), is taking part as an observer in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council 2025 meetings held in Geneva from June 17 to 27. The Qatari delegation is led by Eng. Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of CRA and Chair-Designate of the upcoming ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26).

Through its active participation, CRA will monitor key agenda items vital to the global ICT sector, including policy development, human capital, financial oversight, and budget planning. This involvement ensures that CRA stays aligned with international ICT trends and plays a role in shaping future regulatory frameworks in accordance with Qatar’s national priorities.

During the Council meetings, CRA will present an in-depth overview of Qatar’s readiness to host the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) scheduled for November 2026 in Doha. This flagship event, as the highest governing body of the ITU, defines the Union’s strategic vision and significantly influences global telecommunications and ICT progress. Additionally, CRA will host a pavilion featuring interactive exhibits highlighting Qatar’s cultural heritage and digital innovation.

The ITU Council is instrumental in guiding the Union’s strategic direction, maintaining agility amid the fast-changing global ICT environment. It oversees daily ITU operations such as program coordination, budget approval, and policy assessment.
