Maroc Telecom and IFC Partner to Boost 4G Connectivity in Mali and Chad with €370 Million Investment

Maroc Telecom and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) have entered a long-term partnership to enhance mobile broadband access in Mali and Chad, with €370 million allocated through two strategic loans. This initiative aims to accelerate 4G deployment in these underserved sub-Saharan African countries, promoting digital inclusion, economic development, and financial empowerment for millions.

Mali and Chad, characterized by youthful populations and significant connectivity gaps, will benefit from improved 4G infrastructure that enhances internet access quality and coverage. This expansion will support innovation and modernize sectors such as healthcare, education, and digital commerce.

Mohamed Benchaaboun, CEO of Maroc Telecom, highlighted the company’s 20-year commitment to serving Africa’s fast-growing population, emphasizing the critical role of mobile data in bridging the digital divide.

The enhanced 4G network will also enable growth in Mobile Money and other digital financial services, expanding banking access for previously underserved communities. This aligns with regional development goals, fostering economic and social infrastructure improvements in rural and semi-urban areas.

IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop noted the strategic importance of supporting regional champions like Maroc Telecom, particularly in fragile regions, to drive economic transformation and stability. The investment will also help modernize digital infrastructure for future upgrades, strengthening ICT ecosystems in Mali and Chad.

This partnership supports the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy, targeting a secure, inclusive Single Digital Market by 2030 with universal broadband access and digital literacy. By improving connectivity, Maroc Telecom and IFC empower small businesses, facilitate essential services, and nurture a new generation of African digital entrepreneurs.
