Nepal Telecommunication Authority Issues Notice to Enforce Authorized Frequency Usage

The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has issued a formal notice reminding all service providers and entities to use only allocated frequency ranges—specifically for cellular/mobile, microwave, and satellite services—after obtaining proper permission from NTA. Published on Ashad 2, 2082, the notice references the Radio Frequency Policy 2080 and emphasizes regulatory compliance to prevent unauthorized use and interference.

The notice addresses rising complaints about improper use of frequencies, including unauthorized microwave frequencies for internet services, unpermitted foreign satellite internet usage, and walkie-talkie operations outside approved bands. Such unauthorized activities can cause signal interference, leading to degraded service quality such as dropped calls and slow internet.

NTA warns that persistent unauthorized usage may prompt investigations and enforcement actions under applicable laws. The regulator urges the public to report any suspected illicit frequency usage to help maintain network integrity and service quality nationwide.
