Egypt Sees Surge in Mobile Subscriptions and 5G Rollout in 2024

Mobile phone subscriptions in Egypt reached nearly 120 million in 2024, accompanied by over 10% growth in mobile internet usage compared to the previous year, according to official data reported by Arab Finance. The year also marked the introduction of new services like embedded SIM cards (eSIM) and Wi-Fi Calling, enhancing connectivity in remote areas without extra costs to users.

Egypt issued its first 5G network license early in 2024, with all mobile network operators securing licenses by year-end as part of a national strategy to boost digital infrastructure and enhance competitiveness. The government, working alongside mobile operators, has outlined a phased 5G deployment plan targeting major cities, key transport routes, and strategic economic zones.

This collaborative effort aims to leverage advanced mobile technologies to drive national development and strengthen Egypt’s position in the digital economy.
