Safaricom Ethiopia Relaunches 4G Network in Arbaminch, Strengthens Community Support

Safaricom Ethiopia marked a key milestone by officially relaunching its 4G network in Arbaminch City, advancing digital connectivity in the Gamo Zone as part of its national expansion. The event also highlighted Safaricom’s commitment to social responsibility through a partnership with Mary Joy Ethiopia, an NGO supporting vulnerable women, children, and homeless seniors.

At the relaunch, Safaricom Ethiopia’s Wim Vanhelleputte emphasized the company’s dual mission of building digital infrastructure and fostering community resilience. Safaricom contributed approximately $9,000 to Mary Joy Ethiopia’s new elderly care center, which provides mattresses, nutritious meals, and support to homeless seniors and orphaned children, many affected by HIV.

The ceremony recognized local leaders such as Demissie Admasu, Gamo Zone chief administrator, and Sister Zebider Zewdie, Mary Joy Ethiopia’s founder, for their dedication to social welfare. The initiative aligns with Safaricom Ethiopia’s strong 270% revenue growth for the fiscal year ending March 2025 and its expansion of 4G coverage to nearly half the population.

Vanhelleputte reaffirmed Safaricom Ethiopia’s commitment to blending commercial growth with meaningful community investments, highlighting efforts ranging from providing laptops and internet to schools in Metu to aid in disaster-stricken regions.
