Alfa Advances 80% Network Upgrade Amid War Damage Restoration and 5G Investment Boost

Alfa is progressing with an 80% upgrade of its network components and infrastructure, a key part of its three-year modernization plan. The company issued a statement to counter media claims alleging that Minister of Telecommunications Charles Hage is obstructing development efforts, affirming full ministerial support.

Under Minister Hage’s guidance, Alfa is nearing completion of its largest rehabilitation effort to date, repairing stations damaged by recent conflicts in South Lebanon, Beirut’s southern suburbs, and the Baalbeck-Hermel region. To date, 80 of 107 damaged stations in the South have been restored, alongside temporary facilities in Rmeich, Houla, and Khiam, and the reactivation of stations in Baalbeck-Hermel and Beirut’s southern suburbs. Nearly two dozen border installations are being rebuilt, with five others in final repair stages.

Alongside physical restoration, Alfa is accelerating its digital transformation with increased investment in 5G readiness, projecting network development spend to rise to 17% of revenues in 2025 from 7% in 2024. This investment fuels infrastructure upgrades, the planned phase-out of 2G by year-end, and enhancements via 3CC and 4CC technologies. Sustainability efforts continue, with 33% of the network (444 stations) now powered by solar energy, marking an 11% annual increase.

Alfa’s statement reaffirms ministerial backing and highlights the company’s commitment to rebuilding full-service capacity and preparing for next-generation connectivity.
