On June 27th, HUTCH officially handed over 100 electric bicycles to schoolchildren from rural communities during ceremonies held at Bandaranayake Model Primary College and Zahira College in the Anuradhapura District, Central Province. This initiative, part of a joint effort with the Ministry of Education announced earlier this year, aims to tackle transportation challenges faced by students in remote areas.
The project supports safer and more efficient travel to school, helping reduce the daily burden of long-distance commutes and promoting consistent attendance and academic continuity in geographically isolated regions. The handover events were attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education, HUTCH management, school principals, teachers, and local community members.
This contribution reflects HUTCH’s broader corporate social responsibility vision, emphasizing education, environmental sustainability, and community development. By introducing green mobility solutions into rural education infrastructure, HUTCH reinforces its commitment to driving positive social change and fostering a more connected and empowered Sri Lanka.
Mangala Bandara, General Manager – Corporate Affairs at HUTCH Sri Lanka, stated that the initiative demonstrates a strong commitment to equal educational opportunities for all students. He emphasized that easing transportation challenges in rural areas paves the way for a more sustainable and inclusive educational future, highlighting HUTCH’s partnership with the Ministry of Education in removing barriers to learning.
