AMMAN — The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) released its statistical report for the first quarter of 2025, highlighting steady growth in broadband subscriptions, data consumption, and mobile connectivity throughout Jordan.
According to the report, fixed voice service subscriptions slightly declined by 1.9%, standing at approximately 485,000 in Q1 2025 compared to 494,000 in the same period last year. Residential users made up 67% of these subscriptions, with businesses accounting for the remaining 33%. Despite the dip in subscriptions, fixed-line call volume grew modestly by 1%, reaching 9.8 million minutes, up from 9.7 million minutes in Q1 2024. Of this total, 84% of calls were domestic (between governorates), and 16% were international.
The mobile broadband sector continued its upward trajectory, with total subscriptions rising 3% to 8.03 million from 7.79 million in Q1 2024. Prepaid users comprised 68% of mobile broadband subscribers, while postpaid users made up 32%. Voice-and-data mobile lines constituted 83% of all mobile subscriptions, with data-only lines representing 17%. Mobile voice traffic reached about 6.7 billion minutes, with 97% being domestic calls and 3% international.
A notable surge was observed in SMS usage, with 423 million messages sent in Q1 2025, an 81.5% increase from 233 million in Q1 2024. Mobile penetration reached 68% of the total population by the quarter’s end, up from 67% the previous year. Among individuals aged 15 and above, the penetration rate stood at 105%.
Mobile broadband data usage increased by 10.7% to approximately 675 million gigabytes in Q1 2025, compared to 610 million gigabytes a year earlier.
In fixed broadband, subscriptions rose 2.5% to 818,000 from 799,000 in Q1 2024, corresponding to a household penetration rate of 33.5%. Of these subscriptions, 74% were fibre-optic (FTTH), totaling 607,000 by quarter-end. Fixed Broadband Wireless Access (FBWA) accounted for 17%, while xDSL comprised 8%.
Fixed broadband data usage also grew significantly, reaching 1.4 billion gigabytes in Q1 2025—a 13% increase from 1.2 billion gigabytes in Q1 2024. Average monthly data consumption per subscription rose by 10.4%, from 521 GB to 575 GB.
The report further revealed that 5G mobile subscriptions reached 225,996 during the first quarter. Additionally, leased line service subscriptions grew 17.1% to 24,600, up from 21,000 in Q1 2024.
