BD announced the appointment of Bilal Muhsin as president of its newly created connected care segment, effective July 2. The segment, part of a restructuring announced in February, consolidates BD’s medication management and advanced patient monitoring devices, including the Pyxis automated dispensing systems and Alaris infusion pumps.
Muhsin joins BD to lead strategy development and support the transition to the new structure. Reporting directly to CEO Tom Polen, Muhsin brings over 25 years of experience from Masimo, where he built expertise in connected care technologies, software, and informatics strategies.
At Masimo, Muhsin served as chief operating officer until his resignation on July 1. BD’s connected care business has expanded through acquisitions such as the $1.53 billion purchase of Parata Systems and the $93 million acquisition of Medkeeper. The pharmacy robotics business complements the Pyxis franchise, acquired through BD’s $12.2 billion takeover of Carefusion in 2015.
The Pyxis business recently faced an FDA warning letter and is entering a critical phase. BD has started shipping a new Pyxis device, which CEO Polen noted at a Goldman Sachs event could lead to incremental market share shifts and opportunities for premium pricing.
