Sri Lanka to Connect All Secondary Schools to Internet by End of 2026

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya announced that all secondary schools in the country will have internet access by the end of 2026. The government has introduced an unlimited data package for schools at a cost of just 5,000 Sri Lankan rupees (approximately $17) per month.

In addition to connectivity, the government plans to equip about 1,500 schools with smartboards and other computer equipment. So far, 1,900 smartboards have been allocated, and the cabinet has approved extending this to an additional 1,000 schools.

Furthermore, Sri Lanka is developing a national education management information system to cover all education levels. The Sri Lankan Air Force is providing technical support for these efforts under the Clean Sri Lanka programme.
