Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has unveiled a new national initiative focused on space solutions, targeting satellite communications and related sectors. Named the Space Accelerators Programme, this one-year initiative aims to empower local startups to develop innovative space technologies and services.
According to reports from Muscat Daily, the programme seeks to stimulate entrepreneurship in the space sector, attract investment in advanced technologies, and support the localisation and transfer of space services within Oman. The initiative will be implemented by the Omani company Ankaa Space and Technology Company, in partnership with Exotopic, a UK-based firm that specializes in accelerator programmes.
The programme will support ten Omani startups, helping them develop commercially viable space technologies while strengthening Oman’s national capabilities in space innovation. It will emphasize high-impact sectors including satellite communications, Earth observation, geospatial analytics, navigation, artificial intelligence, drones, the Internet of Things (IoT), spacecraft simulation, and advanced computing.
A comprehensive training curriculum will be offered, covering both technical and commercial aspects to enhance the skills of local entrepreneurs. Additionally, the top three performing startups will receive incentives aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of their ventures.
Beyond the startup support, the programme aligns with Oman’s broader goals of economic diversification and technological advancement, helping position the sultanate as a competitive player in the regional and global space technology landscape.
