Bahrain Boosts Global Connectivity with 2Africa Pearls Submarine Cable Landing

Saudi telecom group stc announced the successful landing of the 2Africa Pearls submarine cable—the world’s longest submarine cable—in Bahrain, marking a major milestone in international connectivity. With a $205 million investment, the cable system will reinforce Bahrain’s position as a powerful ICT hub, accelerating digital transformation, attracting global investments, creating jobs, and driving innovation across sectors.

The 45,000 km cable, offering a massive 180 terabits per second capacity, is the only GCC cable capable of supporting data-heavy applications like content streaming, cloud computing, and gaming. The rapid landing operation near Seef District was witnessed by Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and stc Bahrain CEO Eng. Khalid Al Osaimi.

Dr. Shaikh emphasized the kingdom’s commitment to advancing as a regional digital hub aligned with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. He praised the public-private partnership model with stc Bahrain as a driver of digital progress. Eng. Al Osaimi highlighted that the cable will increase Bahrain’s connectivity capacity tenfold, scalable for future growth, supporting emerging technologies like 5G, AI, and IoT.

This transformative infrastructure will empower businesses with enhanced communication and global market access while offering consumers more reliable internet and enriched digital experiences.
