Huawei Reaffirms Commitment to Cybersecurity and User Privacy in Nigeria

Huawei has reiterated its unwavering commitment to cybersecurity, emphasizing that protecting users’ digital safety will never be sacrificed for commercial gains. Osita Iweze, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria and Head of Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection, made this declaration at the National Cybersecurity Conference organized by NITDA in Abuja.

In his presentation, titled Building a Secure and Resilient ICT Infrastructure for Nigeria’s Digital Future, Iweze highlighted Huawei’s approach of integrating security features directly into its products and services, making cybersecurity a foundational element rather than an afterthought.

Huawei’s cybersecurity and privacy initiatives are governed at the highest corporate levels, with the Global Cyber Security and Privacy Officer reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The company follows rigorous international standards such as ISO 28000 and C-TPAT and invests 5% of its R&D budget into security innovation, operating under the principle: Assume nothing, Believe no one, Check everything.

Huawei promotes industry-wide collaboration by working closely with governments, academia, and industry stakeholders to build technical capabilities, share threat intelligence, and foster a secure digital environment in Nigeria. The company has secured over 600 cybersecurity and privacy certifications and serves more than 3 billion users worldwide across 170 countries.

Notable deployments include Access Bank in Nigeria, the Ministry of Education in Azerbaijan, and SONATRACH in Algeria. Huawei emphasizes its respect for privacy and commitment to transparency, tailoring privacy protections to the specific needs of customers, consumers, and employees.

Osita Iweze concluded: “Huawei’s vision is a secure, intelligent future for Nigeria and the world. And we believe that begins with trust.”
