Bahrain’s Beyon to Develop Khaleej North Submarine Cable Connecting Gulf Nations

Bahrain-headquartered technology group Beyon has announced an agreement to develop Khaleej North, an 800-kilometre submarine cable system that will extend the planned Al Khaleej Cable by linking Bahrain with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. The original Al Khaleej Cable, known as the SEA-ME-WE 6 Gulf Extension, spans 1,400 kilometres and connects Bahrain to Qatar, UAE, and Oman as part of the larger 21,700-km SEA-ME-WE 6 system linking 15 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Khaleej North will be fully owned and operated by Beyon in partnership with SubCom, the global subsea cable provider currently delivering the Al Khaleej cable system. The new extension is designed to enhance Bahrain’s data traffic capacity, digital sovereignty, communication infrastructure, cybersecurity, and global connectivity.

Targeted at meeting the growing demands of hyperscalers, enterprises, cloud providers, and government bodies, Khaleej North aims to strengthen data exchange routes and improve network resilience across the region.

This announcement follows the recent arrival of the 2Africa Pearls cable system in Bahrain, reinforcing the country’s growing status as a major ICT hub in the MENA region.
