The government has established a committee to review the draft Telecommunications Network and Licensing Policy 2025, according to a Cabinet Division notification issued yesterday. The panel will be chaired by Planning Adviser Prof. Wahiduddin Mahmud and tasked with examining the policy’s economic, technical, and implementation aspects.
The move follows concerns from local telecom firms that the proposed policy might disadvantage domestic companies. The committee will also analyze the policy’s background, potential unintended consequences, and assess its long-term economic impact and technical feasibility.
The committee has the authority to expand its membership and may invite officials, experts, or stakeholders to participate in meetings. Other members include Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb.
