Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s leading telecom operator, has been recognized as the ‘Most Sustainable Telecommunication Company of the Year’ at the SDG Brand Champion Awards 2025. The company also earned the SDG Brand Champion titles in Climate and Environment and in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, along with honorable mentions for Decent Work and Economic Growth and Women Empowerment.
The awards ceremony was held recently in Dhaka, with Grameenphone’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Tanveer Mohammad accepting the accolades on behalf of the company. Other senior leaders present included Farhana Islam (Head of ESG), Abdulla Al Mahmud (Head of Customer Service), and Sharmin Rahman (Head of Corporate Portfolio).
Aligned with national priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Grameenphone’s sustainability strategy focuses on digital inclusion, youth skills development, and climate action. Tanveer Mohammad highlighted the company’s commitment to empowering societies through inclusive, responsible, and sustainable digital connectivity.
Key initiatives include digital literacy and online safety training for over 3.3 million people in partnership with Plan International Bangladesh—68% of whom are women from marginalized communities—and digital education for 4.7 million children and 25,000 teachers in collaboration with UNICEF. The company has also upskilled 100,000 youth with UNDP, supported rural tech entrepreneurs through GP Academy and Accelerator, and invested in sustainable energy solutions.
Grameenphone has offset 47% of its grid electricity consumption via Renewable Energy Attribute Certificates (RECs), powered more than 1,000 sites with solar energy, and recycled 1,473 tonnes of electronic waste.
By integrating technology-driven solutions that address both digital and climate challenges, Grameenphone continues to place sustainability at the core of its business operations.
