Mobile Subscriptions in Oman Surpass Population, Showing Strong Growth in Digital Services

Muscat – Oman’s mobile service subscriptions have surged to 8,130,355, exceeding the nation’s population of 5,315,155. On average, each person in Oman holds 1.53 mobile subscriptions, according to the latest data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

This growth reflects a robust telecommunications sector driven by expanding digital services and rising adoption of smart technologies.

Active postpaid mobile subscriptions increased 5.6% year-on-year to 1,239,509 by May 2025, while prepaid subscriptions rose 3.1% to 5,335,847. Internet of Things (IoT) subscriptions posted the highest growth at 118.7%, reaching 1,554,999.

Overall mobile subscriptions grew by 15.2% compared to May 2024, with active mobile broadband subscriptions totaling 5,414,124.

Fixed broadband subscriptions increased 2.6% to 588,015, including an 11.4% rise in fibre optic connections to 339,279 and a 2.1% growth in fixed 5G subscriptions to 215,850. However, fixed 4G subscriptions declined sharply by 38.1% to 19,654.

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) subscriptions dropped 50.8% to 11,806, satellite Internet subscriptions fell 2.1% to 653, and other internet services such as powerline, Ethernet, and leased lines decreased 12% to 773 subscriptions.
