SLASSCOM has introduced a targeted training program to address critical skill gaps among mid-level managers in Sri Lanka’s IT industry. Developed in partnership with senior leaders from top tech firms, the initiative aims to equip IT professionals transitioning from technical roles into management with essential leadership skills to drive sustainable industry growth.
The comprehensive program offers over 60 hours of training, combining real-world application and interactive discussions. Featuring 11 trainers and 10 industry experts—including CxO-level executives—the hybrid format balances virtual and in-person sessions. Phase I covers “Leading Self” and “Leading Teams,” while Phase II focuses on “Leading Customers” and “Driving Innovation.”
SLASSCOM Vice Chairman Sampath Jayasundara highlighted the urgency of the program, noting significant mid-management losses due to migration and remote work. He emphasized that technical professionals often face skill gaps when moving into management, which can strain senior leadership resources. This program fast-tracks their development, allowing leadership to focus on strategic priorities.
Designed to prepare participants for global market demands, the program includes training on effective communication and relationship-building with international clients, supporting success in both virtual and face-to-face environments.
The next Phase I cohort begins in late July 2025, running six weeks with three full-day in-person workshops and 14 one-hour online sessions, structured flexibly for working professionals.
Supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, SLASSCOM offers this high-value training at a discounted rate for members, aiming to nurture a new generation of IT leaders poised to enhance Sri Lanka’s competitiveness through innovation and global collaboration.
