Kuwait Advances Healthcare Transformation with New Facilities, Emergency Initiatives, and Digital Expansion

Kuwait is progressing with a comprehensive overhaul of its healthcare sector, emphasizing global expertise, enhanced emergency response, and expanded digital and preventive care services, according to Ministry of Health spokesperson Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad.

Central to the strategy is the development of specialized medical zones, including the new Al-Adan Hospital with nine interconnected buildings, alongside integrated health zones in Al-Ahmadi and Al-Sabah, designed to deliver accessible secondary and specialized care. New facilities such as Mutlaa Emergency Center, Infectious Diseases Hospital, and Kuwait Cancer Control Center have been launched, while maternity services have been reorganized to improve focus.

The recently introduced First Responder Project features 28 mobile medical units providing rapid emergency care, responding to 70 cases in its first week. Additionally, 20 Automated External Defibrillators have been installed at Kuwait International Airport, supported by specialized staff training.

To enhance medical expertise, the ministry hosted 140 visiting international doctors, promoting advanced treatments and knowledge exchange. Diagnostic capacity has expanded with a new MRI wing at Al-Razi Hospital and new medical centers at border crossings.

Emergency departments handled over 200,000 cases in January, with 86,860 cases managed in the first half of 2025, including ambulance transport and medical evacuations. The new traffic law has contributed to a notable decline in road accidents.

Digitally, the “Sahel” app offers 23 health services, serving 338,844 users in H1 2025, while electronic patient visits reached 3.9 million since October 2023, reducing in-person visits.

Preventive care has scaled up, with breast cancer screenings rising sharply and 872 bedridden patients receiving home visits, with plans to extend similar services to children.

Dr. Al-Sanad reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to healthcare reform through strategic partnerships, smart infrastructure, and digital innovation to build a responsive, inclusive health system.
