The Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL), the state-run satellite operator, has signed a $2.5 million deal to resell Starlink’s satellite internet services in Bangladesh. The business-to-business agreement, confirmed on July 11, involves BSCL procuring Starlink terminals and data packages to offer to corporate clients.
Out of the total investment, $1.1 million will be allocated to hardware—Starlink user terminals—while the remainder will cover data packages. Payments will be made in installments through Starlink Bangladesh, the local entity importing and selling terminals to resellers like BSCL in Bangladeshi currency.
Under the reseller framework, BSCL and other local agents will receive discounts of 15% on hardware and 5% on service charges, along with access to Starlink’s reseller portal and API to manage clients and services. Resellers have the autonomy to set prices, bill customers directly, and offer value-added services such as installation and technical support.
Target customers include banks, hospitals, factories, data centers, offshore installations, and industries such as aviation, maritime, energy, construction, and media. While Starlink globally targets individuals through Residential and Roam packages, business and government clients are served via resellers under Business and Priority plans. In Bangladesh, BSCL will cater to both enterprise and residential customers, though individuals may also purchase directly online.
This strategic move diversifies BSCL’s portfolio beyond its flagship Bangabandhu Satellite-1, which has seen limited commercial success since its 2018 launch. Partnering with Starlink positions BSCL to capitalize on the growing demand for high-speed internet in Bangladesh’s remote areas.
Starlink’s entry has been met with government enthusiasm, backed by a 90-day waiver from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) allowing operation without a local gateway, set to expire in early August.
To support the rollout, Starlink has partnered with local firms such as Fibre@Home, which is building the first ground station at Hi-Tech City in Kaliakair, Gazipur, with plans for additional stations in Jashore and Cox’s Bazar. Starlink’s servers will be hosted at Felicity IDC Limited, a Tier III data center within Kaliakair.
Starlink did not respond to requests for comment on the reseller agreement.
