Malaysian telecom operator Maxis has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aduna, the open network API joint venture led by Ericsson, to promote the adoption of standardized network APIs in Malaysia and accelerate digital innovation for businesses. The partnership was announced at GSMA’s Digital Nation Summit in Singapore.
Maxis will offer developers and businesses access to Aduna’s global platform of common network APIs, enabling them to leverage Maxis’ connectivity and network strengths to create new use cases and services. Initial API offerings include Number Verification, SIM Swap, KYC Match, and Location Verification—tools designed to combat digital fraud and enhance security, particularly for financial services and e-commerce sectors.
Prateek Pashine, Maxis Chief Enterprise Business Officer, emphasized that the collaboration will enable more secure, user-centric services powered by seamless access to advanced network APIs.
Aduna, launched in January 2025, combines network APIs from multiple global operators including América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, NTT Docomo, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, SoftBank, Telefonica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Vodafone. It simplifies developer access by offering multi-operator API integration under the GSMA Open Gateway framework, allowing apps to scale across operator networks.
Notably, Maxis’ local rival CelcomDigi also partnered with Aduna earlier this year at Mobile World Congress 2025. Additionally, Aduna collaborates with the Bridge Alliance, which runs a similar API exchange platform with 34 operator members, including Maxis—the only Malaysian member of Bridge Alliance.
All five Malaysian telcos—Maxis, CelcomDigi, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile, and YTL Communications—are members of the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, supporting open and interoperable telecom APIs.
