Iraq and Iran Collaborate to Enhance Telecom Services for Arbaeen Pilgrims

As part of preparations for this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage, Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission (CMC) and Iran’s ICT authorities have agreed to jointly boost telecommunications services for the millions of pilgrims expected.

The agreement followed a two-day meeting in Baghdad led by CMC Chairman Dr. Nofal Abu Ragheef and Iranian delegation head Hamid Fattahi. Discussions centered on expanding network capacity and improving service quality in high-density pilgrimage zones.

A joint technical team will oversee the implementation, including direct telecom infrastructure integration at the Mehran and Shalamcheh border crossings, significantly increasing bandwidth and data capacity.

The collaboration also includes launching a dedicated toll-free emergency number, broadcasting bilingual voice guidance in Arabic and Persian, and deploying free public Wi-Fi on 5 GHz bands in crowded areas.

Additional measures involve establishing customer service centers for SIM card support and exchanging technical performance reports to ensure consistent service quality throughout the pilgrimage.

These coordinated efforts reflect Iraq’s commitment to providing pilgrims with seamless, reliable communication during Arbaeen, supported by high regulatory and technological standards.
