Vodafone Egypt has unveiled its ambitious “Maaki” initiative, aimed at economically and socially empowering one million rural women across Egypt over the next three years. The program is central to Vodafone’s strategy to build an inclusive, sustainable digital society and bridge the technological gap between urban and rural areas.
“Maaki” focuses on enhancing digital and financial inclusion by equipping women with skills and tools to use Vodafone Cash and access digital education, thereby boosting their participation in Egypt’s digital economy.
The launch event featured the signing of cooperation protocols with key partners: Project Development Device (for entrepreneurial skill nurturing), Samsung Electronics Egypt (providing smartphones to program ambassadors), and CARE Foundation Egypt (handling on-ground implementation in rural areas).
Mohamed Abdullah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt and Regional President of Vodacom Group, emphasized the program’s role in closing the digital divide and driving women’s participation as agents of positive community change.
Basel Rahmy, CEO of Project Development, highlighted the alignment of the initiative with Egypt’s political leadership vision to expand digital transformation and support women’s entrepreneurship.
Samsung Electronics Egypt’s CEO, Pyongmou (Theo) Shin, praised the partnership as a model for impactful public-private-civil society collaboration aimed at financial independence and community integration.
CARE Egypt Foundation’s CEO, Vivian Sabat, underscored the importance of empowering women as a path to empowering communities, stressing their commitment to building scalable, trust-based digital and income-generating opportunities.
