Robi Axiata, Bangladesh’s second-largest telecom operator, reported a 140% year-on-year profit increase to Tk 257 crore for the April-June 2025 quarter, driven largely by a 31% reduction in sales and distribution costs. Meanwhile, revenue fell slightly by around 2% to approximately Tk 2,600 crore, according to its half-year financial report.
Acting CEO and CFO M. Riyaaz Rasheed attributed the profit growth to Robi’s ongoing cost-efficiency initiatives and the successful adoption of homegrown digital solutions. He highlighted the addition of 1 million new subscribers in Q2 as evidence of the company’s strong focus on service quality.
Robi’s active subscriber base grew to 57.4 million, including 44.1 million data users—up by 1.6 million—and 38.5 million 4G subscribers, with an increase of 1.7 million. Data users now constitute 77% of total subscribers, while 4G users represent 67%, the highest industry proportion.
Robi also saw a foreign exchange gain of Tk 2 crore in Q2 2025 compared to a Tk 47 crore loss in the same period last year.
Rasheed cautioned that market concentration could hinder the benefits expected from telecom reforms, emphasizing the need for equitable industry growth.
