Visa, in collaboration with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), released a report titled “Value of Acceptance: Understanding the Digital Payment Landscape in Egypt,” underscoring rapid digital payment adoption by SMEs.
The report reveals that 53% of merchants have adopted digital payments recently, while 55% of cash-only merchants plan to transition, motivated by benefits such as increased revenue and customer footfall. Over 80% of current users express satisfaction with card acceptance.
Egyptian SMEs are seeking more than payment processing—they want loyalty programs, data insights, and security features. Cash-only businesses favor simple, user-friendly digital tools, often requiring education and incentives to ease the transition.
With 77% of SMEs viewing digital payments as essential for growth, and e-commerce expanding fast, Egypt’s digital payment ecosystem is poised for sustained momentum.
