International money transfer services are expanding in Africa, with Western Union, Zoona Transactions Zambia Limited, and Chipper Cash announcing the launch of cross-border transfers via the Chipper Cash app in Zambia. This co-branded service enables customers to send and receive money globally, tailored to their convenience.
Zoona, a leading Zambian fintech and payments platform, was acquired by Chipper Cash in 2022. Together, they serve five million customers across Africa. The partnership leverages Western Union’s 175 years of expertise and global reach in over 200 countries, combined with Zoona and Chipper Cash’s local payments innovation.
Users of the Chipper Cash app can now send and receive money seamlessly across Western Union’s global network. They can send funds to mobile wallets worldwide or arrange cash pick-ups at hundreds of thousands of locations abroad. Bank account payouts will be introduced soon.
The Chipper Cash app is available on Android and iOS. Customers can use funds stored in their Chipper Cash wallet, which can be topped up at various points including retailers, mobile operators, banks, and ATMs, facilitating easy international transfers.
