Oman Launches ‘Future of the World of Work Forum’ to Shape National Employment Strategies

Oman has inaugurated the ‘Future of the World of Work Forum’ in Salalah, a pivotal event aimed at addressing rapid economic and technological changes impacting jobs, skills, and labour markets. Organized by the Ministry of Labour, the two-day forum gathers experts, policymakers, and academics from Oman and the Gulf region.

Held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex, the forum focuses on anticipating future labour market shifts and crafting policies that ensure Oman’s workforce and the wider GCC remain competitive amid ongoing transformations.

The first day featured two key dialogue sessions: ‘Major Transformations and the Sustainability of Labour Markets,’ which explored economic shifts, continuous learning employment policies, and GCC labour market sustainability; and ‘Economic Transformations and the Future of Skills: The GCC Context,’ focusing on governance models, skills forecasting, and evolving education policies.

Aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and GCC goals for sustainable, knowledge-based growth, the forum aims to generate actionable recommendations to strengthen national employment strategies and prepare human capital for future challenges.

An accompanying exhibition, ‘Future Talents… Thought and Action,’ showcased innovative student projects from vocational colleges, emphasizing youth readiness. A special session on vocational training and entrepreneurship further highlighted youth empowerment and sustainable development.

The forum reflects Oman’s commitment to building a resilient workforce capable of navigating global changes and driving regional prosperity.
