Kathmandu, Nepal — Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung declared Nepal’s ambition to become South Asia’s next ‘Silicon Valley’ during the Japan-Nepal IT Forum 2025 held in Kathmandu.
Minister Gurung invited Japanese IT companies to establish a presence in Nepal, highlighting the country’s readiness to support innovation, investment, and technology development. He emphasized Nepal’s commitment to providing regulatory clarity, policy facilitation, and comprehensive institutional backing for IT investors.
“The Forum presents a vital platform for scientists, policymakers, experts, and business leaders from Nepal and Japan to forge long-term strategic partnerships,” said Minister Gurung. He expressed confidence that the event would pave the way for a Nepal-Japan IT corridor fostering sustained collaboration.
Nepal is focusing on developing IT hubs, computing centers, software outsourcing, and related sectors, with incentives such as a one-stop service system, infrastructure improvements, and tax exemptions to attract investment.
Gurung also proposed collaboration with Japan on establishing a green energy-powered data center and launching Nepal’s own satellite to enhance rural connectivity. Cybersecurity, fiber optic expansion, telecom reform, and 5G deployment were also identified as key areas for joint efforts.
Member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Swarnim Wagle, encouraged stronger business ties, suggesting that mega companies from both countries should drive expanded commercial engagement.
