Huawei Awards Scholarships to Sri Lankan University Students for Advanced Technology Training

Huawei, the Chinese multinational technology corporation, has awarded scholarships to a group of Sri Lankan university students to study cutting-edge technology. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, the recipients represent the universities of Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Moratuwa, Wayamba, and Uva Wellassa.

The scholarship award ceremony, held yesterday in Colombo, was attended by Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, Huawei Technologies Lanka CEO Zhang Jinse, officials from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the selected students, and their parents.

Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Seneviratne, speaking at the event, said that students benefiting from Huawei’s scholarships will be able to keep pace with the world’s most advanced technologies and channel that expertise back into Sri Lanka’s development. He commended the program for strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

“Since the introduction of this scholarship program to Sri Lanka, it has gone beyond technical training and opened a pathway for our youth to access global-level knowledge, cutting-edge technology, and cultural exchange,” Seneviratne said. “This is a model for how we can directly empower the next generation of leaders and innovators. Our students must make the most of this opportunity, not only to shape their own futures but to inspire others to dream and aim higher.”

The initiative forms part of Huawei’s broader commitment to skills development, technology transfer, and fostering talent in emerging markets.
