Muscat – Ooredoo has inaugurated the Salalah Data Centre and submarine cable landing station, a landmark project positioning Oman as a rising digital hub in the Middle East.
Located in Salalah, the facility leverages the city’s strategic geography at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and Africa. Its proximity to multiple subsea cable systems makes Salalah an essential point for international digital connectivity.
The new establishment is the first in southern Oman to integrate a Class 3 compliant data centre with a submarine cable landing station. Initially offering 125 full server racks, it is designed to scale up to 500 racks in later phases. The centre is built to support advanced services such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and edge computing—setting a new benchmark for digital infrastructure in the country.
Saed Al Ghafri, Director of Infrastructure at Ooredoo, called the development a catalyst for Oman’s digital future. “The Salalah Data Centre and Landing Station strengthens our role in economic diversification, attracts global digital investment, and facilitates the next wave of cloud and AI innovation,” he said.
Beyond boosting Oman’s connectivity, the project enhances network resilience by providing a secure entry point for international cables in southern Oman. This reduces latency, improves reliability, and is expected to attract global operators, hyperscalers, and cloud service providers to invest in the country—creating jobs and stimulating local growth.
The facility supports a wide range of digital services, from enterprise IT hosting to content delivery, ensuring businesses and governments across the region benefit from faster, more secure, and locally hosted digital solutions.
