Maxis Partners with China Mobile International to Launch CMLink MVNO in Malaysia

Maxis has announced a partnership with China Mobile International (CMI) to introduce CMLink, a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) brand in Malaysia. This marks CMLink’s first entry into the Malaysian market and its sixth global launch, following operations in the UK, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, and Italy.

Operating on Maxis’ 4G and 5G networks, CMLink will provide innovative features including multi-number support on a single SIM card and data sharing services between China and Malaysia — catering especially to students and professionals living in or traveling between the two countries.

The partnership was formalised last week at the 2025 China Mobile SEA Cooperation Conference in Kuala Lumpur, building on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Maxis and CMI in August 2024. That agreement focused on developing enterprise-focused private 5G solutions, spanning private 5G networks, consultation services, smart park solutions, AI advancements, and joint R&D initiatives.

This collaboration aligns with CMI’s broader Southeast Asia strategy. U Mobile also signed a cooperation agreement with CMI in August 2024 to explore commercial 5G models, B2B solutions, and enhanced roaming infrastructure for seamless cross-border connectivity.
