Muscat – Ooredoo has officially launched the Salalah Data Centre and submarine cable landing station, a landmark project designed to establish Oman as one of the region’s key digital gateways.
Strategically located in Salalah, the facility links Asia, Europe, and Africa through multiple subsea cable systems, enhancing international connectivity. It is the first in southern Oman to integrate a Class 3 compliance data centre with a submarine cable landing station, providing unmatched resilience and speed.
The new site begins with capacity for 125 full server racks, expandable to 500 racks in phases, setting a national benchmark for next-generation cloud, AI, and edge computing infrastructure.
“The Salalah Data Centre and Landing Station is a catalyst for Oman’s digital future,” said Saed Al Ghafri, Director of Infrastructure at Ooredoo. “It reinforces our role in driving economic diversification, attracting global digital investment, and enabling the next wave of cloud and AI innovation.”
By serving as a secure southern gateway for international cables, the project strengthens network redundancy, reduces latency, and supports faster, more reliable connectivity. The facility is expected to attract global hyperscalers, cloud providers, and digital operators to Oman, creating new jobs and economic opportunities.
Built to handle everything from enterprise IT hosting to high-performance digital services, the data centre will provide businesses and governments across the region with access to secure, locally hosted cloud and content delivery — further boosting Oman’s role as a rising digital economy hub.
