Airtel Tanzania has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Zanzibar Communication and ICT Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA) to collaborate on major infrastructure projects aimed at expanding telecom and internet services across Zanzibar.
The agreement outlines joint initiatives to improve broadband connectivity, promote digital inclusion, and introduce technology-driven community support services. In addition to infrastructure, the two parties will also focus on advancing financial inclusion by expanding access to digital financial services, making them more convenient and widely available.
Zanzibar’s Minister for Infrastructure, Communication and Transport, Khalid Salum Mohammed, hailed the partnership as a milestone for the government’s digital transformation agenda. He emphasized that public-private collaborations are critical to accelerating e-government, e-learning, e-health, and e-commerce, particularly in underserved communities.
Airtel Tanzania Managing Director Charles Kamoto reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investing in infrastructure and partnerships that empower local communities, align with government priorities, and position Zanzibar for inclusive digital growth.
