Iraq’s Ministry of Communications Denies Signing Any Contract with Vodafone

Iraq’s Ministry of Communications has officially denied reports claiming it had signed a contract with British telecom giant Vodafone. The ministry clarified on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, that the national mobile phone license project is still in its early foundational stages, and no agreements have been finalized.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Omar Abdul-Razzaq Musahab, issued a statement through the Iraqi News Agency (INA), noting that a press release from a Member of Parliament suggesting such a deal was misleading. “We unequivocally and clearly confirm to the public and to the media that there is no contract signed with the aforementioned company at this moment,” he said.

Musahab dismissed the claims as “inaccurate allegations” linked to election politics, aimed at undermining the national projects being developed by the ministry. He stressed that the ministry works with full transparency and will not allow public service matters to be exploited for political gain.

He concluded by affirming that the ministry reserves the right to respond to any attempts to distort or undermine its national initiatives.
