Nepal Telecom Warns Customers Against Fraudulent Connect IPS SMS Scams

Nepal Telecom (Ntc) has issued a public notification alerting its customers about fraudulent SMS messages being circulated under multiple Alert IDs, falsely claiming to be from Connect IPS. The messages warn recipients that their accounts have been locked and prompt them to click on malicious links to “verify” their details.

According to Ntc, several subscribers have reported receiving such phishing messages. Once clicked, the links redirect users to fake websites designed to steal sensitive information such as usernames and passwords, which could then be exploited for financial fraud or identity theft. Some of the scam messages used shortened URLs (e.g., https://shorturl.fm/) to disguise their malicious intent.

Ntc has urged customers not to click on suspicious links, emphasizing that doing so could result in financial loss and misuse of personal identity. The operator reiterated that users should only trust verified official communication channels, including its blue-tick Facebook page, for accurate updates and information.

The company also advised subscribers to remain vigilant against online scams, as fraudulent activities—including SIM swap fraud, fake job offers, and Wangiri “one-ring” scams—are on the rise amid increasing internet usage and low digital literacy levels.

Ntc stressed the need for collective action from banks, telecom operators, regulators, and digital service providers to raise awareness and strengthen security measures. Meanwhile, customers are reminded to always verify the authenticity of links before clicking and never share confidential details such as usernames, passwords, or banking information through unverified channels.
