MUSCAT: Omantel, Oman’s majority state-owned integrated telecommunications provider, has announced plans for a sweeping rebrand aimed at positioning itself as the Sultanate’s leading technology powerhouse. With a market capitalization of nearly $2 billion, Omantel already operates across fixed-line, mobile, Internet, ICT, and data-centre solutions, while maintaining a strong regional footprint through global subsea cable investments and partnerships.
The company’s upcoming corporate makeover reflects the accelerating shift in the Middle East’s telecom sector toward cloud computing, AI, and integrated connectivity. In its H1 2025 Chairman’s Report, Omantel said it is “laying the groundwork for a flagship national technology powerhouse” that will unify Oman’s ICT capabilities, spearhead digital initiatives, attract global partners, and elevate Oman as a regional hub for next-generation innovation.
Central to this transformation is Omantel’s robust infrastructure, including nationwide 5G deployment and near-universal fibre-to-the-home coverage, reinforced by cutting-edge innovations like the region’s first 50GPON trials. With more than 20 subsea cable investments and landing stations in Muscat and Barka, Omantel is also transforming the country into a digital crossroads linking Europe, Asia, and Africa, hosting hyperscalers such as Google and Meta to reduce reliance on neighbouring hubs.
Omantel’s strategy extends beyond connectivity into managed services, IoT platforms, AI analytics, and cybersecurity solutions through its enterprise SOC and government engagements. In partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the company is also piloting smart city solutions — from connected utilities to intelligent transport and lighting systems — embedding AI and IoT in public services.
The rebrand aligns closely with Oman Vision 2040, positioning Omantel as the driver of digital transformation, economic diversification, and national competitiveness in the evolving regional technology landscape.
