KARACHI: Torrential rains across Sindh, particularly in Karachi, caused major disruption to telecommunications on August 21, knocking more than 2,500 telecom towers offline and leaving thousands of mobile users without service.
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), restoration teams were deployed immediately, with around 1,800 towers brought back online within 24 hours. Officials confirmed that mobile and internet services have been largely restored in most parts of Karachi, though work continues in other affected areas.
The disruption highlights the vulnerability of critical infrastructure to extreme weather events, which have become increasingly frequent in recent years, impacting both connectivity and daily life across Pakistan.
