Doha, August 28, 2025 — Huawei Qatar celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of Qatari students in the global ICT Competition with its Innovation in Education and Talent Excellence Awards, while also showcasing the company’s latest advancements in educational technology.
The event gathered leaders from academia and government, including Dr. Salem al-Naemi, President of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST); Dr. Btool Hashim al-Sayed, Director of Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education; and representatives from Qatar University, UDST, CCQ, HBKU, and Lusail University.
Building Qatar’s Future Digital Leaders
In his address, Alex Dai, EVP of Huawei Gulf North, stressed that investing in human potential is Qatar’s most strategic investment:
“We are proud to partner with Qatar to nurture its next generation of digital leaders, equipping them with cutting-edge skills and platforms to innovate—like the brilliant UDST students who recently made the nation proud.”
Dr. al-Sayed noted that these achievements reflect the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and economic diversification. Similarly, Dr. Rachid Benlamri, VP Academics at UDST, highlighted how competitions like Huawei’s ICT Skills Innovation Track provide global platforms that showcase Qatari talent and reinforce academia-industry collaboration.
Celebrating Student Success
The ceremony recognized students excelling in both National and Regional competitions, with special honors for the UDST team, which won second place in the Innovation Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Final in Shenzhen, China. Their project, “Be My Sense”, stood out among entries from more than 40 global teams.
The ICT Competition, celebrating its 10th edition, drew over 210,000 students from 80+ countries, with 179 teams from 48 nations reaching the finals across tracks in Network, Cloud, Computing, and Innovation.
Industry-Academia Synergy
Huawei experts also led sessions on emerging trends shaping education, highlighting the company’s role in creating technology-enabled learning ecosystems. Academic leaders from HBKU, QU, and CCQ emphasized integrating industry-certified courses and applied learning modules to prepare graduates for the digital economy.
The event further featured Al Jazeera Media Network’s AI department, which shared outcomes from its recent AI Hackathon with Huawei Cloud, showcasing it as both a competition and a talent pipeline for Qatar’s innovation ecosystem.
