Cairo/Aqaba — Telecom Egypt and NaiTel, the licensed telecom arm of Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH), have announced the successful completion of the Coral Bridge subsea cable, the first direct subsea link between Egypt and Jordan in more than 25 years.
The 15-kilometer cable system stretches across the Gulf of Aqaba, landing in Taba, Egypt, and Aqaba, Jordan. According to Telecom Egypt, Coral Bridge is a high-capacity, express fiber route designed to transform regional connectivity by supporting data-intensive applications such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
On the Egyptian side, Coral Bridge is the first subsea system to land at Telecom Egypt’s newly developed Taba cable landing point, part of the company’s upgraded digital infrastructure in the Sinai Peninsula. In Jordan, the system terminates at ADH’s Tier III carrier-neutral facility, enabling redundancy, recovery solutions, and expanded market access for enterprises and hyperscalers.
Equipped with 48 fiber pairs and capable of carrying over 1 petabit of traffic, the Coral Bridge is designed to provide low-latency and cost-efficient data transport, offering seamless onward connectivity between Africa, Asia, and Europe by leveraging the unique geographic positions of Egypt and Jordan.
Eyad Abu Khorma, Founder and CEO of Aqaba Digital Hub, called the system a “strategic asset for the entire region,” noting its role in strengthening Jordan’s position as a digital gateway supported by one of the Middle East and North Africa’s largest data centers.
Telecom Egypt added that Coral Bridge marks a major milestone in regional digital infrastructure, enhancing resilience and reinforcing the countries’ roles as critical hubs for international data traffic.
