Qatar Strengthens Role in ICT as CRA Participates in Arab Preparations for ITU Plenipotentiary 2026

Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), took part in the second meeting of the Arab Working Group preparing for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26). The meeting, hosted in Riyadh on August 31, 2025, was organized by the Arab League in collaboration with the ITU and Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space, and Technology Commission.

The gathering brought together ICT representatives from across the Arab region to align positions ahead of PP-26, which Qatar will host in November 2026. Discussions focused on four priority areas: public policy and legal affairs, administrative and regulatory coordination, digital policy and internet issues, and strategic and financial planning.

Arab countries also approved several leadership nominations, including Qatar’s Engineer Hussain Abdulla Salatt, Public Relations and Communication Manager at CRA, as vice-chair of the Arab Working Group. Additionally, Huda Ahmad Al Korbi, International Relations Researcher at CRA, was named vice-chair of the Public Policy and Legal Affairs Working Group.

The meeting underscored the importance of regional coordination to ensure strong Arab representation at PP-26, the ITU’s highest decision-making body. The conference, held every four years, sets the global ICT agenda, establishes strategic and financial frameworks, and oversees ITU leadership elections.

By hosting PP-26, Qatar reaffirms its capacity to organize world-class events and its commitment to advancing international cooperation in the ICT sector. The event will further strengthen Qatar’s role in shaping the future of global telecommunications and supporting sustainable development through digital innovation.
