Batna – Algeria is pushing ahead with ambitious plans to transform its digital infrastructure, with nationwide fiber-optic internet coverage expected by early 2027. Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki announced the initiative during a visit to Batna, confirming that copper lines will be phased out in favor of faster and more reliable fiber connections.
The minister urged accelerated work on projects linking cities, villages, and business hubs, and called on mobile operators to expand coverage, particularly along highways. Temporary beach stations will be deployed until new permanent facilities are operational.
Zerrouki also highlighted workforce priorities, pledging improved pay and working conditions for postal staff, alongside 1,000 new hires. For consumers, 300 additional ATMs will be rolled out nationwide, adding to the 600 already in service.
By extending fiber connectivity from urban centers to rural communities, Algeria aims to ensure every citizen has access to high-speed internet by 2027, reinforcing the country’s digital transformation agenda and positioning it for future economic growth.
