Egypt Accelerates Digital Transformation Roadmap to Attract ICT Investment

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has reviewed the country’s digital transformation roadmap in a meeting with Planning Minister Rania Al-Mashat and ICT Minister Amr Talaat. The discussion focused on attracting greater investment into Egypt’s ICT sector and enhancing cooperation with international partners to strengthen digital development.

Officials highlighted initiatives to exchange expertise with global organizations, expand specialized training programs, and foster entrepreneurship by supporting ICT startups. These efforts align with Egypt Vision 2030, aimed at creating a diversified, resilient economy built on smart infrastructure and digital innovation.

Egypt’s ICT sector has grown rapidly, recording annual growth of over 16% and contributing 5.8% to GDP, up from 3.2% in 2014. The country ranks first in Africa for fixed internet speed and has advanced 49 places in the Government AI Readiness Index since 2019.

Key initiatives include the Digital Egypt platform, which has 8 million registered users, and AI-driven projects in healthcare. Training programs have also scaled significantly, with the number of trainees rising from 4,000 in 2018/19 to nearly 400,000 in 2023/24. The outsourcing sector now employs over 145,000 specialists, exporting services to 175 global companies.

The roadmap reinforces Egypt’s ambition to become a regional leader in ICT, leveraging digital transformation as a driver of investment, job creation, and sustainable growth.
