Algeria Accelerates Telecom and Postal Modernization Plans

Algiers, September 2, 2025 — Minister of Post, Wire, and Wireless Transport, Mr. Sayed Ali Zrouqi, chaired an evaluation meeting with senior officials to assess the sector’s ongoing projects. The review highlighted both achievements and challenges from the first eight months of the year, prompting the Minister to issue new directives to boost performance and speed up delivery.

Central to the meeting was the Fiber Optic Technology Rollout (FTTH), with the Minister calling for intensified work to complete the project by 2027, including converting existing copper networks to fiber. He also demanded regular progress reviews to prevent delays. On mobile and internet coverage, the Minister urged faster upgrades of current stations, construction of new ones along highways, and a census of uncovered areas to expand access.

Postal and electronic services also received priority. Following the installation of 600 ATMs earlier this year, the Minister directed the rollout of 300 more machines and announced tenders for an additional 600 with integrated withdrawal and payment features. He underlined the need for responsibility, initiative, and stronger coordination to ensure that citizens benefit from modern, efficient, and equitable services across the country.

The meeting closed with a call for accountability and teamwork, reinforcing the government’s commitment to aligning project execution with public expectations for improved connectivity and digital services.

Algeria’s communications sector is now under tighter directives to deliver infrastructure upgrades, expand service coverage, and modernize postal and payment systems within set timelines.
