Bangladesh Launches 5G Services for the First Time

Bangladesh has entered a new digital era with the commercial launch of 5G services by leading operators Grameenphone and Robi Axiata Limited on 1 September. This marks the country’s first deployment of next-generation network technology, available initially across all divisional headquarters.

Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman announced the milestone via the company’s official Facebook page, highlighting 5G as a transformative step toward faster, more reliable connectivity and a driver of innovation, entrepreneurship, and smart solutions. Robi celebrated the launch at its corporate headquarters in Dhaka, where government officials and telecom leaders emphasized the wider social and economic benefits of 5G adoption.

Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the ICT Division, called 5G a critical enabler of economic growth, education, healthcare, and smart city development. BTRC Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad ul Bari described the launch as a “new horizon” for the telecom sector, urging responsible use for public benefit. Robi’s acting CEO M Riyaaz Rasheed added that the rollout will accelerate the nation’s digital economy and give customers a first-hand experience of future connectivity.
