DP World Launches Atlas Maritime Service to Connect Morocco with UK and Northern Europe

Dubai-based logistics giant DP World has unveiled a new maritime service, Atlas, linking Morocco to the UK and Northern Europe. Scheduled to begin operations in November 2025, the service will connect the ports of Agadir and Casablanca with DP World’s London Gateway and Antwerp Gateway terminals.

The new route is designed to cut export times for Moroccan fresh produce by nearly two days compared to traditional trucking routes. By shifting up to 150,000 tonnes of goods annually from road to sea, the service is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by around 70% — equivalent to 250 kg per tonne-km — while providing a more sustainable and reliable alternative to congested corridors such as Tangier–Algeciras and Calais–Dover.

“This service is built on three pillars: reliability, speed, and a modern digital platform, offering exporters and distributors an alternative to road transport while ensuring better product quality, optimized costs, and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions,” said Rashid Abdulla, CEO and Managing Director of DP World Europe.

To support the initiative, DP World has invested in 1,250 modern refrigerated containers, 1,000 high-cube 40-foot units, and 750 dry containers to meet growing demand. The company will also leverage its CARGOES digital platform to provide real-time visibility and end-to-end shipment tracking.

Morocco currently exports more than 6.5 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables annually to Western Europe, with exports growing over 20% year-on-year. According to Markus Rodatz, DP World’s Head of Freight Operations in Europe, Atlas will ensure Moroccan produce “arrives fresher, faster, and in better condition, while helping customers meet their environmental goals.”

The official launch of the Atlas service will take place at an event in Agadir on September 18, 2025.
