Morocco to Launch 5G Services in November, Paving Way for Digital Transformation

Morocco will roll out commercial 5G services this November, marking a major milestone in its digital strategy, according to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT). The agency confirmed that it has completed all technical, regulatory, and security preparations, including the reallocation of the 700 MHz and 3.4–3.8 GHz frequency bands. More than 80% of urban radio sites are already fiber-connected, ensuring readiness for 5G traffic.

The country’s three national operators — Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, and Inwi — are preparing to activate networks under a phased rollout plan. Coverage will begin in eight major cities and airports this year, expand to 45% of the population by 2026, and reach 85% by 2030. Each operator has committed to invest at least MAD 600 million for a 20-year license.

Authorities highlighted cybersecurity as a central priority, with a national monitoring system in place to mitigate risks and build public trust. By launching 5G, Morocco will join 21 other African countries already offering the service, according to the African Telecommunications Union (ATU).

The new technology is expected to fuel Morocco’s digital economy, supporting smart city projects in Casablanca, boosting industrial hubs such as Tanger Med, advancing digital healthcare, and enhancing overall innovation and competitiveness.
