DP World has announced the launch of Atlas, a new logistics service designed to connect Morocco with the UK and Northern Europe, significantly reducing export times for fresh food while cutting carbon emissions. The initiative aims to create more efficient, sustainable, and resilient supply chains, particularly for perishable goods.
Morocco currently exports over 6.5 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually to Western Europe, a figure growing by more than 20% year-on-year. Atlas will provide a faster, greener alternative to road transport by leveraging DP World-owned Unifeeder’s vessels and a newly expanded fleet of 1,250 refrigerated containers and 1,000 dry containers. The service bypasses heavily congested transit points such as Tangier, Algeciras, Calais, and Dover, ensuring smoother and more reliable trade flows.
Through DP World’s CARGOES digital platform, exporters and retailers will gain full visibility and streamlined end-to-end supply chain management. The company estimates that Atlas could cut delivery times by up to two days, ensuring fresher produce reaches markets more quickly while reducing emissions by 70% compared to traditional trucking.
Key hubs in Agadir and Casablanca will link with DP World’s ports at London Gateway and Antwerp Gateway, where two dedicated vessels will begin operations in November 2025. From Antwerp, produce will be distributed across Europe, benefiting growers, retailers, and ultimately consumers with fresher, higher-quality food at lower costs.
“Reliability, fast transit times, and modern IT systems are at the core of this service,” said Rashid Abdulla, CEO and Managing Director of DP World Europe. “Atlas offers a viable alternative to trucking, improving quality while cutting emissions.” Markus Rodatz, COO for Freight Europe at DP World, added that Atlas demonstrates the company’s commitment to building smarter, more sustainable supply chains, with the potential to cut up to 250kg CO₂ per tonne-km.
The Atlas service represents a significant advancement in fresh food logistics, offering exporters and retailers across Morocco, the UK, and Europe a greener, faster, and more dependable solution.
