Oman’s Afouq Developments and Egypt’s Prime Group, in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT), have announced the establishment of the Sultanate’s first Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies Zone. The project was unveiled at the COMEX International Exhibition and is designed to transform Muscat into a regional hub for AI, innovation, and future-focused enterprises.
Backed by an estimated OMR 100 million ($265 million) investment, the zone will cover 100,000 square meters and is set to attract both local and international startups. It will integrate global best practices in technology and infrastructure while showcasing elements of Omani heritage.
Siham Al-Harthi, Chairperson of Afouq Developments, described the initiative as a launchpad for startups, offering an environment tailored for innovation and world-class solutions. Mahmoud Farrag, CEO of Prime Group, emphasized the global scope of the project, highlighting partnerships with international corporations, accelerators, and research institutions to build a competitive ecosystem.
The development aligns with Oman Vision 2040, the country’s long-term strategy to diversify its economy and accelerate digital transformation. By combining Omani ambition with international expertise, the zone aims to position Muscat as a recognized global platform for investment, technology development, and AI-driven innovation.
