Islamabad, September 10, 2025 – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has rejected claims of a subscriber data leak from telecom operators, stressing that it does not hold or manage customer information, which remains the responsibility of licensed companies.
Responding to media reports about alleged personal data availability online, PTA said its preliminary review indicated that the datasets—containing family records, travel histories, vehicle registrations, and CNIC copies—were likely compiled from multiple external sources rather than originating from telecom operators. It further clarified that regulatory audits had not uncovered any breaches within the licensed telecom sector.
As part of a wider crackdown on unlawful digital activity, PTA confirmed the blocking of 1,372 websites, apps, and social media pages found involved in selling or sharing personal data. The Ministry of Interior has also set up an inquiry committee to investigate the matter, trace the sources of the leaks, and recommend necessary action.
PTA reiterated its commitment to protecting user privacy and assured the public that it continues to monitor the sector to uphold strict data security standards.
