Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has imposed a one-week suspension on Talabat, citing repeated breaches of consumer protection laws and misleading practices. The ministry stated that the company violated Articles (7) and (11) of Law No. (8) of 2008, following multiple verified consumer complaints.
Authorities accused Talabat of providing false or misleading information about goods, deceiving customers, unlawfully obtaining money, and failing to guarantee service quality. The ministry said these violations warranted administrative action to protect consumer rights and ensure compliance with regulations.
In response, Talabat Holding PLC confirmed it is working with Qatari authorities to address the issue and resume operations promptly. The company has also initiated an internal review to assess the matter and its financial implications.
Founded in Kuwait in 2004, Talabat has grown into one of the largest food and grocery delivery platforms in the MENA region, with operations spanning the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq.
